Niccolò Rinaldi, MEP, was “caught” reading

MEP Niccolò RinaldiMr Niccolò Rinaldi, Member of the European Parliament, for the “Get Caught Reading” campaign: “When I am in an aeroplane, I see some passengers around me that for hours and hours don’t know what to do; they are unable to relax and find a passion in reading. I say to myself, ‘poor things.’ As Proust wrote: “The writer’s work is only a kind of optical instrument that makes it possible for the reader to discern what, without this book, he would perhaps never have seen in himself.” And every book has its own style, it’s own argument, so that we are free to choose; it is almost as if the book says to us, “try it out for yourself and find out if you see better with this lense, or this other one, or this other one still.”
