Reading is an important tool for me to gain knowledge, says Marianne Jelved, Minister for Culture of Denmark

Marianne JelvedI often get caught by reading. And it is a gift every time it happens, says Ms Marianne Jelved, Minister for Culture of Denmark.

Reading is an important tool for me to gain knowledge in both my professional and private life, and I believe it is a gift that every citizen around the world should be able to enjoy. As a private person, a politician, and a minister for culture a significant amount of my day is spent reading, added Ms Jelved.

I read my papers in the morning and then move on to non-fiction publications and preparatory material during the day – and, of course, fiction whenever I have the time. Reading shapes you as a person and makes you develop the personal skills that empower you to participate in society. But reading is also something you can have all for yourself when you need some time out. Something you can get caught by. In a good way, said Ms Jelved for the “Get Caught Reading” campaign.
